On 25th March I received my mark for my 'Art of Photography' assessment submission. Having been awarded a mark of only 45 it would be a gross understatement to say I was a little disappointed.
I found returning to education after almost 30 years very daunting but I worked hard and was hoping for a much better mark than 45. Since the marks were published on the student website I have felt very disheartened and although I have still been practicing regularly I regretted enrolling on the 'People and Place' module so soon and wished I had waited until the results were out. Having said this though, if I hadn't enrolled when I did I probably would have given up chasing my dream of gaining a degree.
This morning I received my letter from the OCA which details the breakdown of marks and assessor comments. The section that really let me down was 'contex' which has left me slightly relieved as I knew this was a weak point of mine. Writing down my thoughts and the reasons behind my images does not come easy to me. The assessor also said that I had produced "some resonant images". I do feel though that more expalination could have been given as to why marks were awarded or lost and a little more advice on how to improve future submissions would have been appreciated.
The last few weeks have seen quite a lull in my coursework, not least because of my disappointing assessment result but I feel that I am now ready to tackle People and Place with more enthusiasm than I have been able to muster of late. To look on the bright side though, at least I have set the bar pretty low, I will be happy if I get a higher mark than 45 for my next assessment.
